Module 1: Introduction to Photography
This module, is the ultimate Introduction to Photography module for beginners. Learn from real life professional photographers in this hands-on fundamentals of Digital SLR and Mirrorless camera course.

This module includes the following 2 units:

(E) CUAPHI312 – Capture photographic images

(C) CUAPPR403 – Store and maintain finished creative work

Prerequisite: NA

Duration: This is a (9) nine week program – 1 x 3hr class per/wk. Students should expect an extra six hours of self-paced study per/wk.

Equipment Needed: Computer & internet (with camera), you will also need to have your own Digital SLR or Mirrorless camera with manual mode functionality and a lens, plus a tripod and an extra battery is suggested.

Module 2: Camera Portfolio 1
This module will help you Unlock your creativity, and shift your thinking with this photographic taster course. Each week, learn about a new genre of photography, and explore the impact these genres have on photography today.

This module includes the following unit:

(C) CUAPHI411 – Capture images in response to a brief

Prerequisite: Introduction to Photography

Duration: This is a (9) nine week program – 1 x 3hr class per/wk. Students should expect an extra six hours of self-paced study per/wk.

Equipment Needed Computer & internet (with camera), you will also need DSLR, SLR (film based) or Mirrorless camera.

Module 3: Digital Imaging 1
This module will give you a solid grounding in digital imaging concepts such as bit depth, file systems, colour spaces, and digital manipulation processes including curves, levels, and layers, Photoshop, Lightroom and Digital Asset Management.

This module includes the following unit:

(C) CUAPHI403– Enhance, manipulate and output photo images

Prerequisite: Introduction to Photography

Duration: This is a (9) nine week program – 1 x 3hr class per/wk. Students should expect an extra six hours of self-paced study per/wk.

Equipment Needed: Computer & internet (with camera), you will also need Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. We recommend an Adobe photography plan.

Module 4: Introduction to Studio
In this module, you will learn various lighting styles for portrait and still-life work.

This module includes the following 2 units:

(C) CUAWHS312 – Apply work health and safety practices

(C) CUAPHI412– Apply photo imaging lighting techniques

Prerequisite: Introduction to Photography

Duration: This is a (9) nine week program – 1 x 3hr class per/wk. Students should expect an extra six hours of self-paced study per/wk.

Equipment Needed: Computer & internet (with camera), you will also need a two head studio lighting kit. We recommend the following:

Module 5: Digital Darkroom
This module will take you through the ins and outs of creating a consistent style of images in Photoshop and Lightroom to give your work a distinctive look and set you aside from the competition.

You will get to know software like ProSelect, Smart Albums and Pixieset; these skill will make your clients want to engage with your work and love what you do.

This module includes the following unit:

(C) CUAPHI313 – Process photo images

Prerequisite: Introduction to Photography

Duration: This is a (9) nine week program – 1 x 3hr class per/wk. Students should expect an extra six hours of self-paced study per/wk.

Equipment Needed: Computer & internet (with camera), you will also need a DSLR camera, A computer with Photoshop and Lightroom Classic installed.

Module 6: Camera Portfolio 2
This module will take you through extending that single photo into a series.

This module includes the following 3 units:

(C) CUAPHI311– Develop and apply photo imaging industry knowledge

(E) CUAPPR312 – Document the creative work progress

(E) CUARES403 – Research history and theory to inform own arts practice

Prerequisite: Introduction to Photography

Duration: This is a (9) nine week program – 1 x 3hr class per/wk. Students should expect an extra six hours of self-paced study per/wk.

Module 7: Photographic Design
This module will enhance your composition skills. Unpack all of the elements that make for bold, visually engaging photographs that stop people in their tracks.

This module includes the following 3 units:

(E) CUADES301– Explore the use of colour

(E) CUADES412 – Interpret and respond to a design brief

(E) CUAACD411– Integrate colour theory and design processes

Prerequisite: Introduction to Photography

Duration: This is a (9) nine week program – 1 x 3hr class per/wk. Students should expect an extra six hours of self-paced study per/wk.

Module 8: Photographing People / Portrait 1
This module will take you through light and colour for integration into a body of creative work. Formal portraits? Informal portraits? Daylight? Studio? It’s all there. If you’re going to be photographing people in any way – you’re going to want this course!

This module includes the following 2 units:

(E-Im) CUAACD534– Research and apply light and colour

Module 9: Photographic Concepts 1

This module will help you explore the qualities of photography that make it a unique form of artistic expression, and learn to work by starting with a concept, then making images to illustrate it. It will also take you through the process to source raise money for creative or artistic project.

This module includes the following 2 units:

(c) CUAPHI532– Research and apply photo imaging trends and emerging technologies

(e-b) CUAFIM511– Source funding for projects

Prerequisite: CUA41120 Certificate IV in Photography and Digital Imaging

Duration: This is a (9) nine week program – 1 x 3hr class per/wk. Students should expect an extra six hours of self-pasted study per/wk.

Now we take all those ideas and refine them further, giving you the power to create the most succinct and engaging body of work you can possibly make.

(e-a) CUAPHI539– Plan and produce visual art photo images

Prerequisite: CUA41120 Certificate IV in Photography and Digital Imaging + Module 1: Photographic Concepts 1

Duration: This is a (9) nine week program – 1 x 3hr class per/wk. Students should expect an extra six hours of self-pasted study per/wk.

Module 11: Digital Imaging 2
Module 11: Digital Imaging 2

This module will take your Photoshop skills from beginner to professional. From portrait retouching, complicated deep etching and digital image manipulation and printing your images to perfection

This module includes the following 3 units:

(c) CUAPHI523– Employ colour management in a digital imaging workplace

(e-b) CUAPOS412– Manage media assets

(e-a) CUADIG415– Produce innovative digital images

Prerequisite: CUA41120 Certificate IV in Photography and Digital Imaging

Duration: This is a (9) nine week program – 1 x 3hr class per/wk. Students should expect an extra six hours of self-pasted study per/wk.

Equipment Needed: Computer & internet (with camera), you will also need Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. We recommend an Adobe photography plan.

Module 12: Digital Imaging 3

This module will help make incredible high end professional images in this pro-level photoshop course. Techniques to refine your digital photos with lighting techniques.

This module includes the following 2 units:

(c) CUAPHI533 – Explore and apply photo lighting techniques

(e-a) CUADIG518– Refine digital art techniques

Prerequisite: CUA41120 Certificate IV in Photography and Digital Imaging 2

Duration: This is a (9) nine week program – 1 x 3hr class per/wk. Students should expect an extra six hours of self-pasted study per/wk.

Equipment Needed: Computer & internet (with camera), you will also need DSLR, SLR (film based) or Mirrorless camera. Film cameras are welcome also, students just have to be happy to scan those images outside of class

Module 13: Advanced Lighting 1
Module 13: Advanced Lighting 1

This module will enhance your understanding of lighting and take it to a whole new level. It will take you through the setting up a merchandise photo shoot plan, in response to an established photo shoot brief. Your shoot will need to be either: Lifestyle, Fashion and/or a Food & Beverage shoot.

This module includes the following 2 units:

(e-a) CUAPHI521– Make illustrative photo images for publication and display

(e-b) SIRRMER008– Plan and style merchandise photo shoots

Prerequisite: CUA41120 Certificate IV in Photography and Digital Imaging

Duration: This is a (9) nine week program – 1 x 3hr class per/wk. Students should expect an extra six hours of self-pasted study per/wk.

Equipment Needed: Computer & internet (with camera), you will also need DSLR, SLR (film based) or Mirrorless camera.

Module 14: Photographic Concepts 2

This module is a playful course, it’s all about challenging photographic preconceptions and conventions. Each course will have a slightly different outcome to allow for students’ individual vision, motivation and career goals.

This module includes the following 2 units:

(e-a) CUAPPR616 – Extend expertise in a specialised art form to professional level

(e-b) BSBCRT512 – Originate and develop concepts

Prerequisite: CUA41120 Certificate IV in Photography and Digital Imaging + Photographic Concepts 1

Duration: This is a (9) nine week program – 1 x 3hr class per/wk. Students should expect an extra six hours of self-pasted study per/wk.

Equipment Needed: Computer & internet (with camera), you will also need DSLR, SLR (film based) or Mirrorless camera.

Module 15: Exploring Portraiture / Portrait 2
Module 15: Exploring Portraiture / Portrait 2

This module has been designed to push and challenge your studio portrait as well as your conceptual skills. Whether you’re a fine art, fashion or domestic photographer, this course will push your portrait photography skills into new territory.

This module includes the following 2 units:

(e-a) CUAPHI536– Provide photographic portrait services

(e-Imp) BSBCMM411 – Make presentations

Prerequisite: CUA41120 Certificate IV in Photography and Digital Imaging +Photographing People / Portrait 1

Duration: This is a (9) nine week program – 1 x 3hr class per/wk. Students should expect an extra six hours of self-pasted study per/wk.

Equipment Needed: Computer & internet (with camera), you will also need DSLR, SLR (film based) or Mirrorless camera, plus your own wireless trigger and receiver kit dedicated to your camera is recommended but not required.

Module 16: Business 101
This module will take you through the systems to start your own photography business. It will walk you through each step to creative a sustainable business model.

This module includes the following 2 units:

(E-Im) CUAPPR512– Develop sustainability of own professional practice

(E-Im) BSBFIN501 – Manage budgets and financial plans

Prerequisite: There are no specific prerequisites for this class, but it is recommended that students enrol in this subject towards the end of their Certificate IV, or as part of your Diploma.

Duration: This is a (9) nine week program – 1 x 3hr class per/wk. Students should expect an extra six hours of self-paced study per/wk.

Equipment Needed: Computer & internet (with camera), you will also need access to an accounting software system, we suggest MYOB or Xero, as they both have student subscriptions and/or free 30 day trials.
