Course Overview

This program has been specifically designed to help Australian high school students start their Aviation career whilst still completing their High School studies.
The aim of this program is to take students through (11) eleven of the 29 units from the AVI50222 – Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane) qualification.
On the successful completion of these eleven units, you will be able to complete the CASA exam for the RPL (Recreational Pilots licence).

Entry Requirements

Full Qualification – Entrants in to this program should meet the CASA requirements for specific pilot entry standards.

RTO’s – Students must be 15yrs or older, have completed a minimum year 10, apply for their ARN (Aviation Reference Number), Pass an aptitude test, Pass a police check, ability to pass a CASA (Class 1 or 2) medical, have a USI or apply for one, and have access to a computer and internet for online activities submission.

Please note: There are age restrictions enforced by the CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) regarding pilot licensing.

Students must be 16 years of age to achieve the RPL (Recreation Pilots licence) and 17 years of age to complete the PPL (Private Pilots Licence). Implications of this are that the student must gain the relevant age requirement prior to the end of October of their enrolment year.

Course Duration

This course is delivered over (2) two full years, inline with your High School terms.

1^st year includes:

Basic aircraft handling skills on the ground and in the air
17 hours flight activities, which includes:
- 15hrs Dual flight
- 2hrs Solo flight

Note: It is expected that the student will complete their first solo flight after completing their 11^th or 12 flight activity.

2^nd year includes:

17 hours flight activities, which includes:
- 13hrs Dual flight (this Includes 2hrs for the RPL Flight Test)
- 3hrs Solo flight
- 1 hour simulator

Delivery Mode

Structured Study

This course is delivered within a blended delivery mode, consisting of face-to-face classroom theory sessions + Simulated & Live Flight Practicals, Structured and Unstructured learning activities.

85% of this course is delivered 1 on 1 – (1 flight instructor to 1 student)

Our flight schools are operational 7days per/wk, this means flying hours can be undertaken in or out of school hours.

Flight training is dependant on weather conditions, we suggest you book your flight training sessions (2) two weeks in advance.

Unstructured Study It is expected that students will need to complete 8hrs per/wk of self study.

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to maintain aircraft radio communications in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and national operating standards.

It includes operating radio equipment, managing radio equipment malfunctions and operating transponders.

This unit addresses aviation technical skill requirements (physical, mental and task-management abilities) related to aircraft radio operator duties of flight crew and contributes to safe and effective performance in complex aviation operational environments.

Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to manage pre- and post-flight actions in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and national operating standards.

It includes completing pre- and post-flight administration, performing pre- and post-flight actions/inspections, and performing and certifying daily inspections.

This unit addresses aviation technical skill requirements (physical, mental and task-management abilities) related to equipment and system operations of flight crew and contributes to safe and effective performance in complex aviation operational environments.

Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to control an aeroplane on the ground in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and national operating standards.

It includes starting and stopping an aeroplane engine, and taxiing an aeroplane.

This unit addresses aviation technical skill requirements (physical, mental and task-management abilities) related to aircraft operational duties of flight crew and contributes to safe and effective performance in complex aviation operational environments.

Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to control an aeroplane in normal flight in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and national operating standards.

It includes climbing an aeroplane, maintaining straight and level flight, descending an aeroplane and turning an aeroplane. It also includes controlling an aeroplane at slow speed, performing circuits and approaches, and complying with airspace requirements.

This unit addresses aviation technical skill requirements (physical, mental and task-management abilities) related to aircraft operational duties of flight crew and contributes to safe and effective performance in complex aviation operational environments.

It includes maintaining an effective lookout, maintaining situational awareness, and assessing situations and making decisions. It also includes setting priorities, managing tasks and maintaining effective communications.

This unit addresses aviation non-technical skill requirements (mental, social and personal-management abilities) for flight crew and contributes to safe and effective performance in complex aviation operational environments.

Operations are conducted as part of commercial and military aircraft activities across a variety of operational contexts within the Australian aviation industry.

Flight hours –

RPL – a minimum of 29 hours of dual instruction with a flight instructor + 5 hours of solo flight time, this includes your RPL Flight Test.

CERTIFICATION

On successful completion of the VETiS Aviation Program, you will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the (11) eleven units within this program.

This statement of Attainment is issued in partial completion of the AVI50222 – Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane) qualification.

Once you pass your RPL Flight Test and the CASA RPL theory exam, you will be issued with your RPL Pilots licence.
